FormerFab® has entered a new Polo Paper and Packaging partnership.

We spoke with Patrycja Rus-Cader, Service Coordinator at Polo, about how it came together and where it’s headed.

The partnership brings together FormerFab’s forming technology and Polo Paper and Packaging’s machinery expertise. Together, the two companies aim to offer more complete packaging solutions to customers across Europe.

How did the partnership come about?

The partnership developed naturally, as part of our search for strong technology partners who could complement our existing packaging machinery portfolio. It helps us offer more complete solutions to our customers.

What do you hope to achieve with this partnership?

Our goal is to combine strong technical expertise with our local market knowledge and customer relationships. This lets us offer solutions that are technically reliable and commercially attractive.

In which markets or segments do you expect this partnership to have the most impact, and why there specifically?

We see the greatest potential in the horizontal flowpack segment. Confectionery, bakery, snacks, and products packed individually or in multipacks stand out in particular.
Demand for flexible, efficient, easy-to-changeover packaging is growing in these areas. That gives us strong potential to expand our offering and generate new projects.

What role do you see for sustainable materials like paper and bio-based film within this partnership, especially with the PPWR on the horizon?

We view sustainable materials like paper and bio-based films as absolute gamechangers for this partnership, especially with strict PPWR requirements coming into force. Rather than seeing PPWR compliance as a regulatory burden, we treat it as a strategic driver to future-proof our portfolio.
Paper-based solutions are excellent for maximizing recyclability and appealing to eco-conscious consumers who prefer tactile, traditional sustainable branding. Bio-based and compostable films are ideal for performance-critical applications where traditional plastics are still required, but fossil-fuel dependency needs to drop fast to meet reduction and recycling targets.
Our goal is to jointly innovate, balancing sustainability, functionality, and cost-efficiency, so we stay ahead of upcoming EU mandates. For now, our current experience and portfolio are focused on paper-based solutions, where we can offer established product knowledge.

Where do you see this partnership standing in 1 to 2 years?

We expect the partnership to develop into a strong, long-term cooperation. Several successful reference projects, a growing installed base, and a strong position in the Polish and Central European packaging market will support that.
